PROLOGUE
‘Chloe Faith Parker, I give you this ring; wear it with love and joy. I choose you to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward for better or for worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish as long as we both shall live.’
The wedding was beautiful. I had never been any happier ever in my entire life.
When I was younger I dreamt of having an elaborate wedding; roses everywhere, me in an elegant white gown, people celebrating with glasses of champagne and so many more compelling images. But, they were what they were- images.
Times change and so do people. Today, I didn’t care about my gown or the flowers. All I thought about was that I was going to be with the person I loved.
CHAPTER - 1
Zachary Dylan Fall. I loved everything about him – the way his smile lit up his whole face and brought that special sparke to his eyes, how his intense, ocean blue eyes bore into yours, his coffee brown hair falling perfectly into his eyes, his naturally pink lips which were always twisted in a smile, his deep, genuine laugh, which made you want to join in, even if you felt like crying just a minute ago, his compelling personality and most of all, I just loved being his best friend.
I was (still am) the complete opposite of what should have been, ‘Zach’s type’. Wavy red hair, 5’2, whom people call ‘cute’ and weird.
I met Zachary at my mothers’ friends’ wedding. Unlike most best friends, who’re together since like, kindergarden or something like that, I met ‘Zach’ary when I was 15. Yeah, 15 – when you feel like the top of the world; when you think nothing can go wrong; when what actually depresses you is a small, red pimple. Ha.
He was just standing there, looking amazing (as he always did) in a black tuxedo, smiling and holding that one glass of pepsi, which he did not drink at all, no, not even a single sip. I was attracted to him almost instantaneously, looking at him every now and then and smiling. I was actually cursing my luck, behind all of the sweet-yet-flirtatious smiles, for, I was dressed like, um, a banana. Back then, I was more into the loose, ill-fitting shirts, short skirts and sport shoes fashion, so, I really didn’t have anything good to wear to formal occassions, therefore, I was wearing the only ceremonial, yellow and white dress I owned.
I looked at Zach again, and saw him grinning at me. God, he’s laughing at me, and, my banana dress. Oh, I could picture the scene where he’s telling his friends about me, sitting in a bar (What. He seemed like one of the ‘cool’ kids.) surrounded by his laughing friends, saying, ‘Yo guys, I saw this girl at the wedding, and, guess what, she was dressed like a banana. That complete freak.’ More howls of laughter.
I looked away and pretended to be interested in the flower arrangements. Quite nice, carnations and roses —
Someone tapped me on my shoulder, I turned around and saw Zachary, smiling down at me. ‘Hi, amazing flower arrangements, right. He laughed; his laugh- deep and infectious.
I stifled a giggle. ‘Mm hmm. Carnations and roses, right, they look nice.’
‘Seriously, are we having a conversation about flower arrangements.
‘Seems like it.’ I smirked. ‘I’m Chloe, by the way.’
‘I’m Zach, Zachary Dylan Fall. Pleasure to meet you, Chloe.’
‘Oh, no, pleasure’s mine, Zachary, I’m Chloe Faith Parker.’
We grinned foolishly at each other and laughed.
‘Wanna hang sometime, Chloe Faith Parker.’
‘I’d sure like to, Zachary Dylan Fall.’
‘Aw, jeez, call me Zach, Zachary’s too, uh, medevial english.’
‘ Haha. Okay, Zach, you can call me Chlo, all my friends do.’
CHAPTER -2
It was a month since I’d met Zach at the wedding and we were already inseparable.
Unsurprisingly, our ‘joined to the hip’ nature did follow certain outbursts from my mother of ‘Whoa. Chloe, are you sleeping with Zachary.’ Pause. ‘There’s only so much that two people of the opposite gender can do together, for, practically the whole day.’
My reaction had always been the ‘open mouthed, utterly shocked and puh-lease’ thing, yet, my insides were always screaming out ‘ Ha. I wish,’ over and over again.
I loved Zach, I really did, a LOT. But, after three days and 7 hours of flirting incessantly with him, with no reciprocation whatsoever, I’d given up. I really didn’t want to break our friendship at any cost. Never.
‘M-O-O-M’ I’d scream and run to my room. Honestly, I most definitely did not want to have ‘The Talk’ with my mother, even less my father, whom, I’m sure she’d eventually put up to talk to me.

Actually, Chloe’s not marrying Zach. I wanted Chloe and Zach to date, Chloe get pregnant, both of them live together, go to college and drift apart.
